Dorito Tacos are a quick and easy dish that packs a flavorful punch. With just a 10-minute prep and a 10-minute cook time, this recipe is perfect for satisfying those Tex-Mex cravings in no time.
- 4 small soft taco shells
- ¾ bag of your favorite Doritos
- 6 tablespoons of BBQ sauce or hot buffalo sauce
- ½ brown onion, finely chopped
- 500g ground beef (there will be leftovers)
- 2 tablespoons taco seasoning
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- ¾ cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 4 teaspoons sour cream
- 4 teaspoons salsa
- Fresh coriander leaves (optional, for garnish)
1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit).
2. Prepare the Dorito Coating:
Crush or blend the Doritos into a crumb-like consistency and spread them out on a plate.
On a separate plate, drizzle the BBQ sauce or hot buffalo sauce.
3. Coat the Taco Shells:
Dip one side of each soft taco shell into the BBQ sauce, ensuring it's coated evenly.
After dipping in the sauce, press the same side of the taco shell into the Dorito crumbs, making sure the crumbs adhere to the sauce-coated side.
4. Bake the Dorito Tacos:
Hang the Dorito-coated taco shells on a wire rack, creating a 2cm (about 0.8 inches) bottom base to ensure even baking.
Place the wire rack with the tacos in the preheated oven and bake for about 10 minutes or until the Doritos on the taco shells are crispy, and the shells have hardened.
5. Cook the Taco Filling:
While the tacos are baking, heat a pan over medium heat.
Add the finely chopped brown onion, ground beef, and taco seasoning.
Cook the mixture, breaking up the meat as it cooks, until the beef is browned and fragrant.
6. Assemble the Tacos:
Once the Dorito taco shells are ready, remove them from the oven.
Assemble the tacos by placing the crispy Dorito side up.
Add the shredded lettuce, the seasoned ground beef mixture, shredded cheddar cheese, and any desired toppings such as sour cream, salsa, and a garnish of fresh coriander leaves.
7. Serve and Enjoy:
Serve the Dorito Tacos immediately while they're hot and crispy. Enjoy this delightful Tex-Mex treat with a bold crunch and plenty of flavor!
